Dear Friends and Supporters of the Hornchurch Passion Play,
“you never know when to expect the Spanish inquisition” so went a famous Monty Python sketch way way back in the early 70’s. Life was going along as usual when all of a sudden in burst the representatives of the inquisition and all that was normal was no more and chaos ensued. I suppose Covid-19 is not dissimilar, in it burst and all that was normal has been thrown into uncertainty and we can make few solid unmovable plans. Sadly, our Passion Play is in the uncertain category.
We had hoped and partially planned for our production to go ahead next year but Covid and Government restrictions had other ideas. It is now our intention to work towards a 2022 date; so please pen into your diary Mid-April of that year. We are, of course, very frustrated at this but we hope that you will continue to support us in what is a difficult time for all of us.
Just as one could not predict the arrival of the Spanish Inquisition so the world could not predict nor foresee just how God was going to burst into our world in the person of Jesus Christ. When the inquisition appeared, there was fear and chaos at what destruction would follow: but when Christ bursts in the surprise was not what He was going to destroy or condemn but what he was going to save and elevate. In that light we go forward trusting in the good providence of the God who loved us so much he gave us His son Jesus. In spite of Covid and the delay the Passion play of 2022 will be a wonderful affair as once more we are reminded of the greatest story of all, the love that God holds for us and the lengths He will go to help us enjoy Him.
